The inspiration behind the Life Enrichment Support Worker Program comes from the steady shortage of screened, assessed, trained, certified support workers in Alberta and the constant high turn over rate in this field. The individuals in our communities who have special needs and abilities deserve to live the best lives they possibly can. The support workers who are in their lives must possess the skills, training and mind-set to offer enrichment to the lives of those they are supporting.
The Life Enrichment Support Worker Program is unique in the approach and how the vital information is delivered to the participants. Although this course is a short-term twelve-week program, it offers the participants half-day or full-day information/awareness clinics from professionals in agencies that specialize in the different types of disabilities and agencies that will be potential employers once the participants complete the program.
There will also be training in communication, active listening, progress note writing, routine planning, self-care and burn-out prevention, empathy and sensitivity awareness. Most importantly the participants will be provided with the opportunity to hear first hand from a guest speaker who is an individual with special needs and abilities. The speaker will offer valuable insight into what they need from a support worker to help enrich their lives.
The final learning section of the program is the practicum which is very valuable as it is hands on experience for the support workers in training. The practicum is 100 hours over the final 5 weeks of the program. Each participant of the program will do their part in setting up their practicum with an approved practicum agency within the community.
The overall concept of the Life Enrichment Support Worker Program is to bring all of the relevant resources in the community together to offer training that is designed specifically to meet the needs of the individuals with special needs and abilities.

The inspiration behind the Life Enrichment Skills for Living Program (LESFL Program) comes from the current battles in our Alberta communities with poor mental health, addictions, poor self-care, stress, cultural differences etc. and the lack of opportunity to offer the necessary knowledge to these individuals. We have incredible resources within our communities in Alberta, however, the busy, fast paced life style we live in deters individuals from accessing the services they require. Every individual in our community deserves to live the best lives they possibly can.
The mindset of the LESFL Program is to give all individuals in our community the equal opportunity to equip themselves with the knowledge and tools they need to take on their challenges long-term.
The LESFL Program is unique in its approach and how the vital information is delivered to the participants. This program is a short-term twelve-week program, it offers the participants half-day or full-day information/awareness sessions from professionals in agencies that specialize in different areas such as; Suicide Information and Education, Indigenous Awareness, Cultural Awareness, Mental Health and Addictions and Healthy Living.
Along with the above sessions the students will take part in curriculum including; communication, active listening, self-care, empathy and sensitivity awareness, gratitude, conflict management, virtues, positive thinking, strengthening confidence, decision making, problem solving, life long learning, life long teaching, emotional support animals, trust, forgiveness, creative and critical thinking and managing anger.
The participants/students will receive employment readiness workshops and knowledge, information pertaining to further education/learning opportunities, employer clinics and tours of relevant services in Central Alberta.
All of these areas are vital life skills that all individuals will benefit from.
The overall concept of the Life Enrichment Skills For Living Program is to bring all of the relevant resources in the community together, along with the appropriate curriculum exercises and sessions to offer knowledge that is relevant to strengthening the participants/students lives to the fullest.
